I allowed Outlook to do an automatic archive and now I cannot locate my
emails. I found a couple of files...one Archives and when I click on it it
says "You are attempting to open a file type Office Data File (pst)" and
goes on to say that it is used by OS and editing could damage my system.
There are some folders in Archive in that left task pane that match the
names of my actual folders but those do not have any emails in them. I
really would like to find my lost emails.
Thanks,
Lynn

You can't open a .PST file from Windows. Try opening from within Outlook
instead -- File | Open | Outlook Data File.

I did as you suggested and they open, and even though the file Archive has
over 95,000KB it has NO email messages..only folders.
Any suggestions on finding my email messages that I archived? I want to
find them, because I would like to use the archive feature (but want to be
able to get to the messages if I need one).

Thanks,
Lynn

Are you positive that the missing messages are not still in their original
folders in your main .PST file? The AutoArchive feature works against the
modified date of an item, and if a folder is scheduled for archive but none
of the items in it meet the criteria for the modified date, the folder will
be created in the archive file (assuming it doesn't already exist) but no
items will be moved.

That said, ~95MB for a .PST does indicate there is probably some data there.
You can try running the Inbox Repair Tool against the archive.pst file to
see if it finds any errors. Search your drive for a file called scanpst.exe
and run it. For safety's sake, allow the IRT to make a backup of your .pst
file before it repairs anything (there should be an option for this on the
first screen when you run the tool).
