Synapse Syndrome

I have tried applying a rule, that I had already defined, to some newsgroup
accounts. I get a message saying that no newsgroup accounts have been
created. Yet another bug?

ss.

if it not the RTM of vista, that is the problem.
rules work just fine in the RTM version.

I'm using RTM. I'm not talking about using Rules. Those are working here
okay, I mean Applying Rules, in the Message Rules dialogue box.

I have no problem with applying the manual rules in RTM, except that WM is
much slower than OE in that respect.
You will have noticed that WM does not retain the selected rule to apply on
the second screen? You need to select the active rule there again & apply
it.

I think you can fix this by removing the default communities account and
then adding msnews.microsoft.com back.

Check your mail rules first and see if they work though, as if they don't
work, its something else.

I posted with a sreenshot, but it did not show?

I have just tested this again, and it is not working. It works fine in
OE6,
and you have to select the rule on the second screen in OE6 too.

I use this Apply Rule function to mark messages older than x days as read,
or to highlight certain posters with colour, depending if they of of
interest, or a total moron, for example.

If you look at this screenshot you can see an example of a rule that I
have
made which is not working. If other people also get this error it must be
another bug in WM.

ss.

You only need to select the rule to apply in OE once in screen 1, in WM if
you select it on screen 1>apply now, you have to select it again on screen
2, but forget that, mute point :-)

The point of your post is bug or not in applying manual rules? As I said
previously I have no problem, see my screenshot, sorry about the size I
wanted to show more detail:
Does the same thing happen if you apply a manual rule to your local mail
folders, Inbox etc.

iirc?
Something similar occurred during the beta, after I did an upgrade from XP,
and allowed WM to import my accounts, subsequently I had 2 msnews accounts,
I removed the WM auto created Communities account and used the imported one,
to resolve that 'no news account setup' error that I then got, I had to
remove the imported account too and start afresh with a new 'Microsoft
Communities' account.
YMMV, HTH?

as I said, mine work with no problem.
even when I apply manually.
I do not use the Communities feature.

Right, thanks everyone. I just figured what was causing this. I actually
have four different newsserver accounts here, and what I had done before was
rename Microsoft Communities to msnews.microsoft.com to keep in line with
the other account names.

When I did this I didn't make sure that there was a Default Account. As no
default was set, WM seemed to think that there were no accounts. I set my
main account as the default and it works fine now.

There is still a minor bug though. Unlike OE6, the dialogue box defaults to
the first newsgroup on your default newsserver, and not the newsgroup you
are currently in. So you have to navigate manually to the newsserver
account or newsgroup you want to apply the rules to manually, which is a bit
annoying.

Sorry ss, but are you checking your statements regarding what WM does that
OE did or did not etc?

They both, WM & OE default to the first newsgroup on your default news
account?
Mail rules default to Inbox on both.

Oh yes, sorry, you're right. I'm not sure why I thought otherwise.
