We have a Win2k domain with XP Pro stations. Lately when
we sign into the network it takes about 10 mintues
to "apply personal settings". I have looked on the
knowledge base to see what is happening and can only find
an artical relating to having lots of group policies, of
which we haven't set any. Any advice would be
appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Nicole,

A common cause of problems like this is having a problem with the DNS
configuration. Make sure that your client machines point to your internal
DNS server that has the zone for your Active Directory domain on it. Also
make sure that your domain controllers point to that same server. If DNS
is running on the DCs, they should point to themselves for DNS. Also make
sure that your internal DNS is configured with a Forwarder to allow
Internet name resolution.

Typically what we see is client machines mistakenly pointed to the Internet
for DNS name resolution. That works fine for resolving Internet names but
will not allow the clients to resolve the names it needs to find as a
member of an Active Directory domain.
