Applying heatsink compound

Clean both surfaces with alcohol. If there is gunk left over from a heatsink
pad, clean it off with acetone first (nail polish remover).

Then put a small dab of compound in the middle of the chip and attach the
heatsink. This works perfectly every time. I know cuz when I remove a
heatsink I always see a fine line of compound ringing the chip impression
(so thin you can't see it) on the heatsink. Never fails, no trapped air.
Quick and easy.

I like the new stuff out called CERAMIQUE (non-conductive). One person
on a review said that you can probably rub it all over your motherboard
without shorting it out! I used the CERAMIQUE, the Arcti Silver Thermal
Material Remover, and the Arcti Silver Thermal Surface Purifier all for
about only $13.50 (shipping included). The uGuru shows my CPU staying
at around 90 degrees Faranheit, and BIOS shows about 95 degrees
Faranheit. Big difference from the old 115 degrees average on my 4 year
old system. Don't know what to do with my old SOYO mainboard. I'll
probably just throw it in the trash durring Spring Cleaning. Use a
plastic putty knife to scrape off old thermal interface compounds or
pads, then use the cleaners.

When I've had a big mess of thermal pad crap, I warm it over the stove and
then use half of a plastic clothespin to scrape it off.
