Applying computer settings

I have several Win2K systems that have the same problem.
They are taking forever to apply computer settings. Can
anony help diagnois this? How can I speed up this process?
What is really happening during this stage of the boot
process?

Seems to have been a problem with my Domain server and

Active directory restarted both and problem seems to have
gone away.
