Apply action takes forever

I scanned my system with Windows Defender and it detected UltraVNC and
RealVNC, but they are part of UBCD4Win so I set them both to Ignore. When
applying the action it keeps going and going and I can see at the top it
shows Taking actions... the gauge moves as if it was working, but it never
stops and MsMpEng takes up all the CPU. Please advise.
 
I would choose ignore always for those if they are related to a package that
you've knowingly installed.

Were there other items detected? I haven't seen this behavior, and I've run
Windows Defender on a number of machines with various VNC variants
installed, primarily UltraVNC.
 
Windows Defender did not detect any other items. I restarted my computer,
tried updating Windows Defender, but it still doesn't help. I'm at a lost
right now.

I'm at a loss too. I don't see anything at all to worry about in those
detections--ignore always should be the right choice.

Maybe this is time to use one of your two support incidents? Apparently,
you call 1-866-pcsafety, assuming you are in the United States or Canada.
Otherwise, call the number for paid support in your locale, and ask about
the two free support incidents for Windows Defender.

You could wait it out to see whether it ever completes whatever it thinks it
is doing, but I'm not sure what other intervention would help.

I'm a little worried about calling that number with this question--you might
be better off with an email support incident where you can show off those
detections, and maybe the staffer at the other end will get some sensible
advice before telling you how bad VNC is... However, I don't know how to
submit an email support incident for Windows Defender--I did some looking
around a few minutes ago, and wasn't able to find that information.

yep. so does mine - not sure how long, but I think I could do a complete
WinXP install by the time it does the Apply action (when I say to Always
ignore!)
