applications responding slowly

What applications specifically are acting slowly? Are they all memory-intensive applications, like 3DSMax, Dreamweaver, Enterprise Manager, etc.? Or are they just basically any application period? Have her do a scandisk, defrag, virus scan, and malware scan; it's possible something is happening in the background.

or responding slow. Most users or complaining a bout
openning or saving WORD and EXCEL files. I have checked
everything you have stated other than malware scan. What

Malware, at least in my eyes, is software that's been installed for possibly evil purposes, such as spyware (spyware can record what websites you visit, what music you listen to, etc.). What I would suggest to scan for this type of software is to download something like AdAware or Spybot Search and Destroy. Personally, I use Spybot S&D, and I've found it very helpful.

How new are the machines that are running slowly; would they possibly be hampered by lack of memory, maybe a slow HDD access time? If your users are complaining about MS Office (and only Office) applications opening and/or saving slowly, maybe they need to reinstall Office; if other programs are also experiencing this problem, it's likely something else.

Tony,
Systems are 1.7ghz, 1G Ram, Win2000, OfficeXP.
I see no reason for the slowness, unless I got a bad
update from MS. I was just working in Excel and could not
get a chart to work correctlt. (Something is wrong!) I
will have to try reinstalling Office. Win2000 sp4 and
Office XP sp1.
Thanks
Damian
