I"m running Windows XP. About 3 weeks ago, my office
suite (Office XP) stopped working. I can load the
applications but can't type anything. I can't back up my
Quicken account. I've tried to restore my system to a
previous date and it says it can't do it. What's going
on? How do I fix this??????? Please e-mail me @

I would scan the system for viruses and other malware.

I did that. No virus. Now what?

1. How did you scan? If a virus is active on your computer it may hide
itself.
2. Check your startup settings. Maybe an application running in the
background is the culprit.
Applications that start with Windows can be found here:
- the WIN.INI, section [windows], entries "run=" and "load="
- the Registry keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
- the folders
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\{username}\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP

I'm not familiar with office XP, but is that a package that requires
activation with Microsoft? And if so did you activate it, you didn't mention
that in the original post.
