I'm getting failure of apps to initialize. Trying to
execute apps brings up the message "Memory location can
not be addressed". Trying to bring up certain services
like the Network Connection service, I get the
message "Error 998: Invalid access to memory location".
Working on a Win XP Home SP1 edition. Tried knowledge
base, tried system recovery before problem started (did
not work), can not execute Anti-Virus, can't get on
Internet or open most applications. Checked physical RAM
by swapping out (doesn't appear to be the problem).
Checked and recreated Virtual memory after ChkDisk and
DeFrag. Knowledge Base was not helpful. Do you have any
suggestions?

"...tried system recovery before problem started (did not work), can not
execute Anti-Virus..."

Both are signs that your computer is likely infected with a virus.

If you are very certain that you cannot connect to the Internet, you will be
unable to update your virus signatures or to use one of the online scanners
available from the major antivirus companies. You may have to bring your
computer to a third party who can scan it with updated virus signatures.
(Best Buy does this, for example.)
