Applications disappear abruptly

Just upgraded from ME to XP home. Several program, such
as regedit, Norton Anti-Virus and some games, come up and
seem to work fine, only to disappear completely after a
few seconds. No close dialog box, nothing - just gone.

Fixed it myself if anybody cares. The "stinger" program
from McAfee identified the W32.sdbot.worm.___ various
incarnations. The blasted thing was not discovered by
Norton - and it is over a year old. It is persistant, it
keeps trying to come back - but periodic re-running of
Stinger deletes it. It seems to include an auto-dialer
and busily uploads stuff to the internet when on-line.
