Application won't autostart now

Running Windows XP Pro.

I had Intervideo WINDVD4 program installed, and when I would double
click on any video file in explorer, the application would open and
play the video file. I upgraded to Intervideo WINDVD8, and no no
matter what you do, the video will not autoplay unless it is a .mpg
file.

I went into explorer, File Types, and made .avi files open with
WinDVD, but they still will not autostart. The screen opens, and even
if you press the PLAY button, the program in explorer directory is not
being carried over to the app.

The only way I can get the app to carry over is to drag and drop it
into the app screen, or use the SOURCE as a FILE and then it will
play, but I sure miss the ability to just double click on the file
name in explorer and it starts up automatically, saving the minimizing
and rearranging of Windows.

How can I restore this convenient feature?

Thanks for any help.

Try going to run, type:services.msc In msc scroll to the program, double
click on it,then set to "auto run",it may be in "manual start"...

Found the problem. When WinDVD 8 installs, it also installs
Apple Quick time, which aggresively takes control of all kinds
of other program types without asking you if you want it to.

I did a complete uninstall, cleaned out the registry and all
files left, all refrences I could find to Quick Time and previous
versions of WinDVD, then did a reinstall WITHOUT Real Media
and Quick Time, and guess what, it works as before.

Thanks for help.
