application will hang when trying to import video

Using Movie Maker or any other video editing software I am unable to import
existing video files into any of the editors that I have (Movie Maker, Nero
etc'). The application will hang and will not return an error. What should I
do???

I also am having the same problem. Myrobem started after I reformatteded and
now I cannot make movies. Nothing stays in the timline boxes when I drag
movie clips! Any ideas and solutions would be appreciated.!
 
Well if you have the same problem with all your editors then I would
definitely suspect a codec problem.
Many of the free codec packages out there, especially those you find on P2P
networks, are either bad or purposely malicious.
If you installed any of these codec packages uninstall them and see what
happens. Otherwise do a System Restore back to before they were installed
and see if that clears up the problem.
