Application sometimes loading as a process instead

Ocasionally I will open an application (iTunes, for
instance) in a normal way, but it will not load anywhere
I can see it. I then look at Task Manager in the
Processes tab and I see it there. Any thought as to how
this could be happening? What can I do about it?

A previous running of the application probably 'crashed'. You can
right-click the instance you see running in Task Manager and choose 'End
Process' or 'End Process Tree' which generally clears things up enough to be
able to run it again visibly.
