Hi,

I've just updated my beta1 with beta2 (Defender) on Win2k Pro. After installing GDI+ installation worked fine. But when trying to run the program (as admin) I got the following error message:

Application failed to initialize: 0x80010534

See the attached hardcopy for the complete error message.
Any help appreciated.

Best regards,
Ulrich

The same thing happend to me as well but I couldn't
fix this issue. Thanks for any support in this matter.

Hi,

it's getting worser and worser. Now after every system start Windows Defender tries to load and fails. But also Windows Update is getting into an endless loop while trying to update Windows Defender (it installs, tells everything's ok, and after a while windows update pops up again telling me that there's an update available ... and so on)

Ulrich

The update issue is a separate issue from the error message.

I don't have a fix for the error message--I would recommend making certain
that all critical patches for Windows, including the Windows Installer 3.1
are installed.

If you downloaded on or before February 22, and have installed on a
non-English language version of Windows, I would recommend uninstalling
Windows Defender, doing a new download, and installing from that new
download. This step is NOT applicable to English versions of Windows.

You might also try Start, control panel, add or remove programs, Windows
Defender, change, update.

For the update problem, uste the steps in this article:

Is there a solution in this problem? I've been tryiung out several of the
succested solutions but non of them seems to solve the problem? How can I get
rid of the comment"Application failed to initialize: 0x80010534, there seem
that there's no mapping between the username(?) and the security-ID". I'm
using W2K, swedish version and installed GDI+ and version beta(2).

how can I verify the version number?

I've downloaded it on February 24th. Nevertheless I will try your
recommendation and report.

I will try this before a new install too.

Thanks,

Adding to my last message:
oops, I was too fast, I've Windows Installer 3.1 installed.

(Windows Installer 3.1 question)

It is listed, near the end of the listing, in add or remove programs. If
you see it there (there's a KB number after it in the name)--I think you are
OK, although one user said that re-applying it helped him.

Can you list what you've tried? I do not have a solution that I know works
for this one.

Hi Bill!
I've been updating the computer with all possible updates since july 2004,
including SP 4 and windowsinstaller 3.1. First of all the GDI+ was missing
and it was installed manually yesterday and then I downloaded and installed
the Beta 2 version that was installed correctly, but the comment about
0x80010534 came up after starting up W.D. Is there a future update planned to
a nonBeta version of this program, and when can that be? If there's no
solution in this problem then I se no other way but to uninstall this crap.
The worst of all is that my version of Windows AntiVirus is no longer
possible to use, due to this.

Please say more about "Windows Antivirus"? What web site does this come
from--does it have version information?

Theres no scheduled release date that I am aware of, but I'm confident that
it will be later this year.

I've now tried all suggested solutions but nothing helped :-((

I will deinstall this software and hope for something better to come

Best regards,
Ulrich

That looks good to me. This is an underlying Windows Update/Auto Update
issue--so it is worth fixing, even if you aren't using Windows Defender (or
OneCare.)
