I recently had a problem with my WD SATA hard drive which developed bad
sectors that prevented me to start windows. After some work I managed to fix
these problems.

Today I have had two apps crash to desktop with a fault bucket error and I
was wondering if this error is linked to my previous problem, ie the apps
were trying to write to a drive that is possibly developing more bad sectors!

It's very possible the problem is related to bad sectors. I don't know how
you managed to fix the hard drive, but run CHKDSK to locate/repair drive
errors. If no errors are reported, I would then do a repair install of the
two apps (if those installers support such a thing). If they don't support
repair installs, then uninstall and reinstall them.

If the hard drive is making a type of clicking/clanging noise, then the hard
drive may be getting ready to fail.

The most likely event to me is that the drive is developing more bad
sectors.
Instead of posting to the internet, I would be out buying a new disk.

Hi CTOS.

Somehow I managed to fix the errors using the recovery console. Thanks for
your reply. I was just wondering if there could be other possible causes?

No way to know since we can't possibly guess what the error messages said.

Please repost with the complete text of the error messages and we will
try to analyze them.

If you are concerned about your hard drive, you should install Western
Digital's free disk diagnostic tests.

I am in the process of obtaining a replacement drive. I was curious if this
was the problem or if there was another cause.

Hi Leonard.

I have already performed the WD diagnostics and repaired the drive. I am
trying to eliminate other possible causes.

Hi Leonard.

I have an original Atari version. I have been running this app for a while.
Recently had to do a clean install so I am playing the game again. This
problem is the first instance. I am asking this question because I had a
different app do the exact same thing earlier on today. My machine is clean
according to Avast, Spybot and Ad-aware and HJT log does not contain any
rogue entries.
