Following on from my request for startup help, I have now managed to get the
thing to start, admittedly intermittently, and am getting the following two
error messages coming up:

HDAudioShortcut: HDAudioPropShortcut.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x7c9118d0" referenced memory at "0x7c95c488". The
memory could not be "written"

RUNDLL32.EXE - Application Error
The instruction at "0x7c910370" referenced memory at "0x5d012b74". The
memory could not be "read"

Any ideas what may be causing this and is there an easy fix???

I have enquired of a friend who suggests that the HDD is failing and may
need replacing?!?!?!?

Again, my thanks in advance for any advice received

You have malware on your computer. Here's a link about the HDAudio
thing:

Go through these malware removal steps systematically:

The errors have nothing to do with your physical hard drive. You need to
clean up your computer. If the instructions at my website look daunting
(and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take
the machine to a professional computer repair shop - not your local
version of BigStoreUSA.

Yes, part of a trojan. You've got an infested computer, my friend.

One way to find out about stuff like this is to do just what I did: plug
the executable (or part of it) into Google. So for your questions, I
used "HDAudioPropShortcut.exe" for the first search term. When I got
nothing, I shortened it to "HDAudio" and got the link I sent you. Use
"run32dll" as the search term and you get plenty of links with the same
trojan information.

Do yourself a favor and after you've gotten the computer all cleaned up,
take a look at the information on these sites:
