Dear Carl,
Thank you for your posting.
The problem occurs when you have installed pcAnywhere 10.5 and Novell
Client 4.82E XP on a Windows XP system.
Solution:
=========
NOTE: This document applies to Windows XP only. Deleting the GinaDLL entry
on any other version of Windows can cause other problems. Do not delete the
GinaDLL key under any other version of Windows unless specifically
instructed
to do so.
This is due to a chaining problem involving Awgina.dll and the Novell
Client.
To resolve the problem, do the following:
1. Uninstall both the Novell Client and pcAnywhere. Be sure to reboot after
each uninstallation. Refer to the document (How to uninstall pcAnywhere
from Windows NT/2000/XP)
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/pca.nsf/docid/1996123152913 for
further information.
2. Install pcAnywhere 10.5. Reboot the computer after the installation
completes.
3. Click Start and then click Run.
4. Type REGEDIT and click OK.
5. Navigate to the following Registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
6. In the right pane of the Registry Editor, right-click on the GinaDLL
entry and then click Delete. Click yes to confirm the deletion.
7. Close the Registry Editor and reboot the computer.
8. Reinstall the Novell Client. Reboot the computer after the installation
completes.
The error should no longer occur.
For more information about this error, see the following articles from
NOVELL and Symantec.
