We have a 25 thincleints connecting to a Windows 2000
Server running TS. The are set to only run a software
package called PWB by Team Software Solutions
(www.teamsoftwaresolutions.com) Every once and awhile the
Thin clients will be just displaying a blue screen. It
seems the PWB application crashed, but is is not
specifically mentioned in the event log.

Here is what is in the event log:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: DrWatson
Event Category: None
Event ID: 4097
Date: 4/21/2004
Time: 10:10:25 AM
User: N/A
Computer: CHICAGO
Description:
The application, , generated an application error The
error occurred on 04/21/2004 @ 10:10:25.154 The exception
generated was c0000005 at address 0045577C (<nosymbols>)

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
John Chambers
..

Dr Watson event 4097 is generated if an app crashes. Usually the app name is
shown in event log (e.g. "The application, abc.exe"). Can you check some old
event 4097 log entries to see if they have your app's name?

One way to check if it was your app that crashed is to use TS Manager and
look at the list of processes running in that session.

Rajneesh,

I looked at all of the 4097 events and none of them list the app.

The sessions are usually reset right away, but I will try to see if that is
the app.

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

Thank you for posting!

What is the detailed information on the blue screen error? Generally, it
will log the information to a dump file.

Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services by telephone so that a
dedicated Support Professional can assist you further with your request to
check the dump files.

To obtain the telephone numbers for specific technology, please review this
web site:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=sz;en-us;top

If you are outside the US, you can find regional telephone support numbers
at http://support.microsoft.com.

Have a great day!

Jack,

We don't get the infamous blue screen of death. I have configured the shell
to be the PWB instead of explorer.exe. So when the PWB (I suspect this is
the app) crashes the thin clients displays a blank blue screen.

Thanks for you help.

John

Hi John,

Thank you for the update. We don't recommand you replace the explorer.exe
shell. I suggest you change it back to check if the issue still exists. To
initial a program in Terminal Services, you may follow the steps below.

1. Open Terminal Services Configuration.

2. Open the properties of RDP-Tcp and click the Enviroment tab.

3. Set the program here.

If the issue doesn't occur, I think that the issue is related with the PWB
program.

Hope this helps!
