Hi. I'm trying to run a CD-ROM DOS game on Windows XP but
having problems with the game 'hanging'. I'd like to
restart in MS DOS type mode but do not know if/how to do
this?

Many thanks.
Mark.

Hi,

There is no dos-mode to start in, as there is no dos in an NT-based system.
Start/run cmd to ruin the dos emulator, then try running your software in
this environment.

There is no true MS-DOS mode in XP. Have you tried running the game in 95
or 98 compatibility mode? It's worth a try and may work depending on why
it isn't currently working. Right click on the icon for the game and
select Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab and check the "Run this
program in compatibility mode for" box, selecting Windows 95 from the drop
list. Apply your changes and try the game again.

Thanks to Tom and Nick for your replies. I'd tried both
solutions with no success, unfortunately. I'll try to use
a boot disk, perhaps that might help.

Cheers.
Mark.

Hi, Mark.

If you tell us the name of the game, there's a good chance someone here will
recognize it and know how to make it work for you. As Rick and Tom have
indicated, there are a number of tricks that MIGHT work, but you have a
better chance of learning the right trick if you tell us which program
(including the version) that you are trying to run.

If the game requires a "restart in MS-DOS mode" in order to run under
Windows 98 then it almost certainly will not be usable on Windows XP.
