applets wont load? HELP

I recently upgraded to windows xp professional and i
found that I cant play games on www.games.yahoo.com.
originally it said I couldn't load the page because i
didn't have microsoft java somethin. so I downloaded all
critical updates and updates for internet explorer and
now instead of sayin I dont have something, it doesn't
load the applet for the site. it just shows a little red
x in the corner. any help would be much appreaciated.

The "update" removed Java.
