apple might use both Intel and AMD in Macs?

I know that Jobs only said that Apple would use Intel
cpus but if Mac X can run on intel, it's 99% of the way
to running on AMD64 too. But will Intel insist on a
clause in the Intel/Apple contract that apple not also
use AMD? I could really see Apple using intel chips to
get started since Intel is better known than AMD has
a bit more marketing draw, but once they've had intel
chips in their boxes a while I can really see Apple
sliding some AMD's in too.

By the time that Apple ships their x86 boxes their market share will be
under .5% so it really won't matter if they use AMD or not. The best thing
that could happen to AMD is if Dell get's pissed at Intel for subsidizing
the Apple transition and they start to use some AMD parts.

AMD really don't have any platforms, they depend on 3rd party chipsets,
motherboards, etc,,,,.. Intel can do the Chipset, Motherboard, CPU, LAN,
Graphics, Drivers, Compilers and support for it all, plus as far as FAB
space/production Intel can make way more chips then AMD can, one little
screw up at AMD and Apple is screwed.

Who would you rather deal with? I like AMD but I wouldn't bet my
business on them.

Considering the volume Apple will need..
I think that total production output isnt going to be an issue.
AMD can do a lot more than you think..
I have never seen an amd graphics driver of their own design tho.

No, I doubt Intel would insist on an Intel-only clause for MacOS. Apple
on the other hand would insist on a Mac-only detector inside the MacOS,
which would by default mean Intel-only. Apple's firmware will preclude
running their OS on anybody else's machines, including other Intel
machines. And since Apple won't be using AMD processors, that would
mean *all* AMD machines would be incompatible with MacOS, and only
*most* Intel machines would be incompatible.

AMD can't do more that's their problem, if they could they would
probably be busy filling Dell orders right now. ;p
