Apple keeps sending irritating pop-ups

My computer has an Intel processor and I use Windows Vista.
Nontheless, every time I boot the computer, a pop-up from Apple
appears, urging me to download updates for QuickTime.
I can close the pop-up window, but I do not know how to prevent these
pop-ups to appear and reappear at every start-up of the computer.

Every time my dislike for Apple and their agressive marketing methods
becomes stronger.

Any suggestions, apart from downloading the QuickTime updates in which
I am not interested?

And these popups occur without you ever loading Quicktime, like to view
a .mov file or view a QT video in a web page? You haven't loaded any
Apple software for an iPod?

Are these ads to "buy" something from Apple? If they are just
notifications of available updates, why not configure Quicktime's
options to NOT check for updates? That's what the Update tab is for.

Run MSCONFIG and see if anything in there pertains to Apple or
Quicktime and untick it. Then stop whatever process that pertained to
using Task Manager.

Look in Programs and Features... uninstall the Apple Software Updater,
or uninstall Quicktime.

If you uninstall Quicktime... replace it with Quicktime Alternative.
 
If you have any Apple software installed (QT, Safari, iTunes, etc) you will
be bombarded with pleas to update or download every bit of software Apple
makes. Disable the automatic update feature (in most of their software it's
"Check for updates every xx days" or some such) or uninstall the Apple
software in question.

Uninstall QuickTime and install QuickTimeAlternative 2.90.

Start the QuickTime player.

Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences > Update tab > uncheck the "Check
for updates automatically" checkbox > click any OKs

In iTunes as well, there is a configuration for updating which can turn
updating off.

MSCONFIG and disable QTask, reboot, then open Program Files folder, look for
QuickTime, open the folder and delete QTask. You'll have to repeat this if
you update QuickTime. This isn't permanent. If you open any file
associated with QT it'll automatically ask you to update. What I suggested
should eliminate the pop-up.

Actually he wants to search for and delete the file QTTASK.EXE which stands
for quick time task.

This ^^^ or write a nasty letter to Apple complaining their software
installed itself on your system like some kind of virus with a default
option set to check for updates and prompt if it finds one. Tell them these
annoying prompts are making PC users angry and lowering productivity and
you're reporting them to the UN, the EU, and Homeland Security for
terroristic acts.
 
A year ago or so I had QT installed because some internet site did not
work properly without it.
Inadvertently, I had also Apple Software Update installed. I think
Apple Software Update may be the culprit, so I had it deleted.
I will wait for a few days to see if any Apple pop-up window appears.
If it does, I will remove all Apple software and install
QuickTimeAlternative.
