I've had the iPod for 3 weeks. Just came back from Apple Computer Store. The
iPod works on their computers. They thought the problem is with my Windows XP
or? They didn't really know. (or care.) Computer Geeks at Best Buy said it
was compatibility problem and needed Service Pack 2. I have Windows XP Home
Edition which includes SP2. I tried to return it and they wanted a 15%
restocking fee. I've tried everything on Apple's Website -
Troubleshooting-iPod Updater, Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall,Restore. iPod
icon does not appear in the corner of iTunes no matter what. Error Message -
Do not disconnect comes up every time. I learned how to disconnect safetly. I
have reinstalled numerous times to no avail. Any suggestions will be
appreciated.

You could try Apple's iPod forums - in iPodLounge IIRC
