Appending the domain suffix...

Hello everyone -

I have a Windows XP Pro workstation that is unable to
connect to a SRV record. My Windows NT and 2000 machines
have no problem, but my XP machine will only connect when
using appending the domain suffix to the name of the SRV
record. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure I understand your problem, but I can tell it depends on your
domain setup. For W2K active directory domains, joining the domain requires
the AD DNS. For NT4 domains, you need to specify in XP the WINS server
address.

Reason is that computer name resolution is performed in different ways.
While in native AD domains computer name resolution is performed on the DNS
using direct hosting on port 445, in NT4 domain a domain controller is
located using NetBIOS and WINS name resolution.
