My computer does not execute my specifyings about appearance of icons in the
Notification Area. I insert my specifyings in the Customize Notifications
window (Taskbar and Start Menu Properties) - Always Show or Always Hide. It
shows some icons and does not show other. And it shows other icons after
restart and does not show other. Sometimes computer shows icons correctly
after restart, but not often. How can I correct this?

My system is WinXP+SP2.
Thanks in advance

The Taskbar has problems keeping settings from boot to boot. You will just
have to reset the icons you want to show and the icons you don't want to
show each boot. I have also found that icons for programs which access the
Internet, such as Internet connection icons, will almost always immediately
lose their settings.

You just have to keep trying, until they stop getting lost or
displayed(depending on your settings).

I have also found that after making my settings, using the "Apply" button
before clicking on "Ok" seems to cause the settings to be saved more
consistently.

I doubt very seriously whether Microsoft has anything helpful to say about
this matter. They don't seem to care about their XP users very much. Just
admitting that there is a problem with the Taskbar losing its settings is
almost sure to not set well with the Microsoft bunch. I've never seen an
MVP or representative of Microsoft in any of these newsgroups who had a
definitive solution to this problem. If they do admit that there is a bug
in operation here, it evidently isn't on their list of fixes anytime soon.

Maybe the best solution all-around would be to disable the hiding of icons,
and cause all Notification Area icons to be shown all the time. (which does
seem to work more consistently).
