Does this mean that the person who replied to my problem, and helped me, was
also an imposter? (See immediately below.) How is one of the uninformed —
me — supposed to know that there is a "code" that's supposed to appear after
certain names? We don't know the names of all the people who are supposed to
be MVPs.
In any event, the advice given me worked....

Try scanning with these 2 programs, one at a time.
Also, if you are using Norton, it interferes with System restore
http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html
Spybot Search & Destroy 1.6 is a very good, FREE Anti-Spyware Program.
Download, install, update, and immunize your System with it.
Then SCAN with it.
Update it, and scan your System once a fortnight.
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
Malwarebytes is as the name says, a Malware Remover!
For the Free version scroll down their page to either download from
Download.com, or Major Geeks.com
Download, install, and update.
Important re: Safe Mode
If you happen to find a problem that you can’t uninstall / delete, reboot
the computer, and go into Safe Mode.
To get into Safe mode, tap F8 right at Power On / Startup, and use UP arrow
key to get to Safe Mode from list of options, then hit ENTER.
RESCAN your computer with your AV) and Spybot S & D and Malwarebytes while
in Safe Mode.

I have a very odd thing happening. It's not stopping my using my system,
but
it does seem to be interfering with my being able to go to a restore
point,
as I've tried twice with no success. The system goes through the restore
process, but then tells me it failed. (Before this happened, I could
restore; I did it once just to see how it worked, when nothing was wrong,
out of curiosity.)
The image I've attached shows a CMD screen that is popping up every minute
or so, on top of any other window(s) I have open. It appears for an
extremely brief period, less than a second, but I managed to get a screen
capture of it (disappearing) by just repeatedly pressing 'PrtScn' until I
was lucky, and then pasting the image in my photo editor. As you can see,
it
is a window for windows/system32/cmd.exe.
This wasn't happening two nights ago. I have run scans; nothing found but
an
innocuous tracing cookie (by two different antivirus programs) and I also
ran AdAware, which found a few things but nothing that would account for
this. I've restarted, shut down for several hours, (wishful thinking that
the latter would make a difference!) but no, it's still popping up. I've
tried "catching" its 'close' button with my mouse but it seems to 'know'
that I am trying to do this, as it moves. This tells me it could be a
virus,
but a search for such, so far, hasn't given me any clues. And as I say, my
scans say the system is clean.
Anyone have any ideas, please? I'm not technical enough to go any further
myself!
