In response to a request from my ISP, I downloaded
Microsoft AntiSpyware last weekend. After Installation
the following scan indicated my computer was free of
spyware.

The next day I begin having a slow down problem but could
not find a problem. Norton Anti Virus scan returned no
virus dected.

The problem procedeed to grow. By now I presumed I had
something dreadfully wrong. I begin to connect the
problem to the AntiSpyware, so i unstalled it.

Now my computter takes almost 20 minutes to boot.

The computer is a late model Toshiba Sattelite P25-S509
running OEM Windows XP with all the updates.

I am a Electrical Engineer with 50 years computer
experiance including Systems, Applications and Robitics
programming experiece from X86 level to PLC Ladder Logic
in major industrial applications.

Today Norton AntiVirus returned a message a virus was
present, It was trying to invade the virus protection.

A few minutes ago I found on the internet where Microsoft
AntiSpyware had a virus, I now have a good idea where the
virus came from.

Do you have a fix for this, or am I going to have to
format my disk and start over?

If I have to start over, how I get relicensing for my
existing programs?

Sincerely

Ray Counts.

It would expidite matters if you could give me a
Telephone Call on this matter.

Ray,
If your ISP sent you a link or attachment, I'm suspecting it was a hoax mail
with the virus attached.

Ray - you found on the internet a single conversation, in these groups,
where a user associated a virus incident on his machine with Microsoft
Antispyware.

In fact, the virus in question was one which spreads by accepting
attachments from other users of an Instant Messenger application. Do you
use such a messenger program?

What virus did Norton identify as being present on your machine? What does
their web site say about how to remove that virus?

I agree with Ron Chamberlain. Check with your ISP but it
would be an odd ISP that recommended that all its
customers install a BETA program of any kind. If you
still have the email from your ISP could you forward a
copy to me?

Try the online virus scans from Trend and Panda.

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

http://www.pandasoftware.com/

Then get HijackThis.exe from
http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/hjt199//HijackThis.exe

Save then Open it and select the SCAN AND SAVE LOG option.

Note where you save the log and then send it to me. I
will be glad to look at it
and tell you if I see something bad still running.
