I posted a message on Oneline Communities before I found
this site.

Apparently I am a victim of the Virus distrubited by the
MS SpyWare I installed over last weekend. I uninstaled
the MS SpyWare when I become suspicious of a problem with
it, but now I have a advanced virus problem. My computer
now takes about 20 minutes to boot and runs at a very
slow rate. Norton AntiVirus detects a attact on their
antivirus software but cannot find the problem.

I would realy appericate some help from MS. Since if I
have to strip the disk and start over, I will need to re-
license a lot of ms Products.

If you are having a problem caused by a virus, and it does sound that way,
Microsoft PSS will help you for free.

In the US or Canada, call 1-866-pcsafety. Elsewhere in the world, call your
local Microsoft Product Support services number. The call itself may not be
free, but the help will be.

Is the phrase;
"....the Virus *distrubited [sic] by the MS SpyWare* ...."
really true?
i.e. surely it wasn't "distributed" by MS, or am I just paranoid!

This is a field that it pays to be paranoid in, but in this case, I think
the operative word in that sentence is "apparently." What is "apparent" to
us changes over time. I don't think we yet have completely clear answer to
how Ray's machine became infected, but the virus in question infects via
Messenger, and via unprotected shares on a LAN. As I recall, in his case,
there wasn't a LAN involved so..... As I say--it isn't black and
white--he's got a sequence of events that would seem to indict Microsoft
antispyware. However--what's the mechanism that could be involved for a
single downloader (out of many more than 3,000,000 to be infected?

There are multiple threads with Ray on this issue, and more information in
the other thread, whose location I can't recall--perhaps general.
