MSAS won't run in the background. I check the Task
Manager and there is no program running.

Also, during startup, whenever any other program is
loading, a new MSAS icon appears in the system tray.
Mousing over each icon causes it to disappear.

I've tried to uninstall/reinstall... Reinstall to a
different directory... Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Do you use TightVNC or RealVNC or any other VNC application to remote
control your computer? Also, is this a Tablet PC? This seems to affect most
if not all Tablet
users.

Under Taskmanager, the Microsoft AntiSpyware Processes are represented by,:
gcasDTServ.exe and gcasServ.exe, if those are running, Real time protection
is enabled.

You can also try doing a repair:
Go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. Click Microsoft AntiSpyware
and click Change. Click Next, and then click Update.

I don't use any VNC applications.

The platform I am running on is Win XP SP 2. It is a
Dell workstation.

I do see the process gcasServ.exe is still running, but
not the other one you mentioned. Actually,
gcasDTServ.exe shows up in task manager, but as soon as I
click on the icon, in the system tray, the process as
well as the icon, goes away!

Thanks for your quick reply. If you have any other
suggestions, I appreciate it!
