Hi, I have used APC UPS boxes for years - no special issues.

As client has a second server running from one Smart UPS 2200 I got an
APC 9607 Interface Expander that gives 2 extra COM: ports.

Connected up ok ('ok' light on card is on) but no comms with server. My
question is there a 'special' cable to use with the expander or is the
standard one meant to be used? (I got the card without cable)

The UPS built-in COM port connects ok to either server.

The expander only uses basic signaling. When you set up the UPS properties on the server it has to
be setup as a back-ups because it doesn't use the smart signaling.

Hi, thanks, yes I found that just now. They also say that its a differnt
cable for basic signalling. Do you know if the other smart
slot/expanders allow mautiple smart signalling ports?

Im amazed at how backware APC products are in many ways - why provuide
only basic signalling? Pah.

Not sure its been several years since I played with it. I think they do the signaling that way so
one system is the master and by using their software it sends commands to the other systems for shut
downs . The smart signaling cable is black and the basic ones are grey. I have never seen any
expanders that have all smart, but I haven't really looked that hard into it.
