apart from Eudora, which email programme would you recommend?

My isp (freenet.de) all of a sudden do not support Eudora for Pop3
mail anymore. That's because they introduced SMTP with
authentification. I was told the reason for this is error in the
programme.

I'd rather not use outlook. Which programme would you recommend? Which
one would you consider the safest?

Eudora can't do auth SMTP?

Eudora. It does authentication for SMTP.

Eudora and outlook blows.

It says on my isp's website that "basically Eudora can do ASMTP. But
it isn't compatible anymore with freenet.de due to an error in the
programme." Whatever that means.
I'd suspect that ambigous way of phrasing it means that the error isnt
in Eudora but that there's an error on behalf of my isp!?

I am reading up about thunderbird now.
