My friend has a router provided by AOL called a thomson speedtouch 576. How
can he install it without logging into aol as the cd it came with tries to
make you do so.

the point being that he wants to use it on a different ISP not on AOL as he
is not a AOL customer and got the router from his Dad.

he wants to use the modem/router on a different ISP. I forggot to mention
this. he isnt an AOL customer, got the router from his Dadd

The modem belongs to AOL and it cannot
be used with a different ISP.

The 576 router/modem is a dsl modem. It is available for purchase in th UK
for about 50 pounds? (The euro bit you know) from AOL and others.
Obviously a DSL line would be needed, along with setup info. I'd suggest an
internet search for the needed info.

try connecting your router to your pc/switch/hub whatever... and open your
web browser and use the address http://dsldevice.lan and you can configure it
thru it's built in software. hope this helps..

Sorry what i did forget to mention was a direct link to the configuration
wizard built into the router http://dsldevice.lan/ewizard.htm this will
allow you to configure your router to ANY ISP, because it is not locked to
any service provider, which some people implied in previous posts,

Matt

You can install it like this:

1) Make sure that your PC and router are connected, and that the PC is
getting an IP address from the router.
2) Go into your browser and type http://10.0.0.138
3) You should now find your self on the web interface for the router. There
is a quick setup wizard available to you. Use that to enter your
login/password for your ISP.
4) Go into the "Connections" section of the menu and make sure that the
router is connecting to your ISP correctly.

If all is well, you should be able to use the router with your new ISP.
