Can AOL subscribers use Outlook Express for sending/receiving emails?

What does AOL support tell you?
Or, what does an Outlook Express newsgroup tell you?

No, unless it has changed since I dumped AOL many, many years ago - which I
seriously doubt (AOL has always wanted to be different.). AOL uses a
proprietary email system.

It's the long-term "Gotcha" for AOL users. That proprietary
format keeps a good number of AOL users in place. I've
helped many former AOL'ers to get their data transferred to
XP based utilities & formats. Actually, I use a program that
I purchased that makes the transition fairly easy.

Thanks a lot for correcting me. Some of my clients will be happy to know this.

Again, thanks,

Since you are paying AOL (assuming that you are) then why not just call
them to find out? I can't see that posting here and waiting for replies
and then waiting until you return to read them could be faster than
simply calling your tech support. Did you search through their help
pages? Did you do a keyword search to check for mail setup
instructions?

On AOL, use the keyphrase "Open Mail Access". Or go read
http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/ (found through a simple
Google search). Also read
http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/assistance/HA010936921033.aspx. AOL
has provided IMAP and SMTP hosts for over 2 years now.

Most AOL users can barely tie their shoes without assistance, thus their
dependence on AOL.

Best advice that can be given: Dump AOL. It is the single worst piece of
malware ever written. Using AOL prevents you from knowing the true wonder
of the Internet.
Get a real ISP.
