AOL Instant Messenger

I have Windows XP Prof on my home computer. After downloading AOL Instant
messenger and I try to send a message I get an error that it has encountered
a problem and needs to close. Error signature: AppName: aim.exe AppVer.
5.9.3861.0 Mod Name: msvcr71.dll Mod Ver. 7.10.3052.4 Offset 00010428 Can
someone please help me?

Unfortunately, you are unlikely to get any assistance for anything
related to AOL, as most of the readers of these newsgroups shun it like the
plague.
Uninstall AIM. Reboot. Download the latest version from their website, and
make sure your system has as the requirements listed there.
Install from the file you just downloaded.
Reboot (even if it does not ask you to...)/
Try starting it again. If you get the same message then you have a software
conflict.

Bobby,
Thank you for your help. I did what you said and the first time it didnt
work. The second time I tried it I decided to download the newest trial
version the AIM Triton Demo especially for XP users. After spending 1/2 hour
reading the info I decided to try it. It downloaded without a problem and so
far is working great. Thank you for your help.
