My daughter has downloaded something from AOL and it has caused the computer
not to be able to open files, inlcuding Norton Systems Works. In viewing the
Symantec and Micorsoft sites it talks about a art image vulnerability, but
when I try and download the update to address this vulnerability I cannot get
it to run as well. A have run Spybot and Adware in safe mode as well as anti
virus scan, but also does not seem to help. Any help would be great.

Your computer is infected. Do the preparatory steps here:

Then run Sysclean or Multi_AV:

If by "downloaded from AOL" you really meant "AOL Instant Messenger" then
you will probably need to run HijackThis and post your log to one of the
specialty sites listed at the first link (not here, please).

It can be very difficult to remove the latest trojans that come in from kids
clicking on links/programs they get in instant messenging programs. If the
procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't
your cup of tea - take the machine to a professional computer repair shop
(not your local version of BigStoreUSA).

After you get it all cleaned up, you *and* your daughter need to review the
information at some of these sites:
