Anything use Firewire nowadays?

My old computer only has USB 1.1 ports on it, and I want to get a PCI
card that has USB 2.0 ports on it. Some of these cards also have
Firewire ports on them. Do any devices use Firewire? Seems like
everything is USB.

Yeah, they (industry heads) thought/intended firewire to be the next
standard, but never really caught on. It would have been nice though
with a higher data transfer rate being the main advantage. However, USB
was never thought nor intended to be as popular as it has become. USB
has grown from being a way of faster data transfer to a source of power
for MANY things from printers to lava lamps to humping dogs. It's crazy.

The dumbasses that made my HD PVR only gave options to make backups from it
using eSATA or Firewire. No USB! Morons.

USB is the first standardized low-DC-voltage connector ever(*), AFAIK. I
don't think the USB committee intended it that way, though :-)

(*) Well, not really, the fist one is the cigarette lighter in cars, but
it never caught up for household uses.

Get one if it's free but no point in paying extra. Firewire
is almost dead. Some older digital videos and few external
hard drives - that's all Firewire is good for these days.
