When I click or double click on Start or anything in exployer or internet
exployer the item or screen will not hold. The item comes up and then quickly
disappears. Is there a setting in windows I missed?

There is definitely a problem with Windows somewhere but my computer has
recovered from the many symptoms people are describing here. My problems
seemed to have been with Adobe Flash Player that there were Flash Player 6
files in the Macromedia folder in the Windows32 folder and I don't think I
did anything to load any version 6 Flash Player files in my computer.
But I reformatted the harddrive, this may not have been necessary and that
took 9 hours with Seagates Disk Wizard.
I don't think that was necessary, and I followed the instructions at the
Adobe.com website for reinstalling Flash Player 9 at the link I posted in
the thread "IE problems".

Thanks for responding, I have already reformatted, wrote zeros to the hard
drive and reloaded XP and the problem returned.

Check the clock. Is the cmos battery ok?

That's a good suggestion it is an older computer and I have never changed the
CMOS battery. I have a new battery on hand. I will keep you informed of my
progress thanks.

Have you tried using a different mouse?, I am wondering if the left
button switch in your mouse is failing....

Batteries *usually* last 3-5 years, sometimes even longer. Normally
one doesn't change the battery until it shows symptoms of failing, and
those symptoms are normally that the clock loses time while the
computer is powered off.

Unlike umwhat, I don't see anything in what you describe that sounds
to me like it's likely that the battery is your problem. On the other
hand, if you want to try changing it, it's quick, easy, and
inexpensive, and can't hurt. Just don't get your hopes too high that
this will fix it.

When you say you "reloaded XP and the problem returned," did the
problem return immediately after reinstallation of Windows, or after
some period of time? How long? What else did you do during that time?

Thanks the mouse was the problem, it was very subtle at first. Then it
started to get realy bad. Makes me fill realy dumb. Thanks again for the
suggestion!!!!!
