Anything like Button Boogie?

Unfortunately no longer free, Button Boogie allowed the user to re-arrange
the order of open programs in the Taskbar by dragging their buttons. It
doesn't work on XP, and I do, so I'm looking for an alternative. Any
suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi Tom,

Perhaps this?

You will no longer have to settle for the windows default taskbar location.
By using Windows Taskbar Commander you can rearrange your programs
automatically within the windows taskbar to any way you like and have it
remember your favorite locations. Windows Taskbar Commander can
automatically move a new app to replace a closed app that was within your
specified applications range. You can also hide running applications and
show them again with a click of your mouse.

Worse. Despite their statement about no spyware, it tries to DL
DotNet adware. It's crap. Sorry about that. They're just getting sneakier
and sneakier.

sigh.

Well, I can't fault you for trying. Thank you. If you can't find it, I
guess it isn't to be had.

Taskbar Commander
TaskbarCommander.zip (17kb Archive)

Only for the most eccentric of Windows users - lets you control the order
that buttons appear on your taskbar. Alphabetize them, etc. Requires IE4+
with shell integration.

Well, I'm glad I took a closer look at that. Seems there are two Taskbar
Commanders, a very large one, which SOS warns against (and I'll take his
word for it), and this very tiny, indeed Boomer-sized, program which
you've recommended, and which I find is by Mike Lin, a freeware author
whose Startup Control Panel is often recommended here.

Lin's Taskbar Commander misbehaves somewhat on my XP machine, causing a
duplication of some icons. However, it is certainly better than not
being able to rearrange the icons at all (Button Boogie has spoiled me!)

Thank you, Ninou, for pointing me in the right direction.

Hi Tom and all--

Yes, Button Boogie was a real gem- Lin's Taskbar Commander gets the job
done, but not with the ease of grace of BB. Now if someone would just write
an XP version.

DotNet Adware? Never heard of that. Windows Taskbar Commander was
developed using DotNet. So it needs the DotNet redistributors from
microsoft and if you don't have it, it downloads and installs it for
you. No Adware whatsoever. As for nagware, after 30 individual days
of use, it does ask you to register. But it does it in the same way
Windows Update does using a bubble reminder. While annoying at times,
its hardly as annoying as a popup every time you use it. And if the
bubble reminder does on bother you, it's 100% free with on Spyware or
Adware. But if you like the software, it's only $10. It's much
better then Button Boogie, it works on XP and lets you set up your
favorite taskbar order and keeping it that way without any effort.
Once you have it, I'll bet you'll never want to live without it.

Give it a try, you will not be disappointed:
