does anyone know how to prevent that pop up that keeps
telling me the system will shut down in 60 seconds? it is
ruining my computer!!help!

You have the blaster virus. Always have an active anti-virus program with updated detections running. For now you will have to go>start\control panel\ double click administrative tools\double click services\ then scroll down and find RPC and double click it to bring up the configuration window. Then click the recovery tab and in all three "failure" lines click the drop down list arrow to the very right of each line and select "restart service" then click apply down the bottom and close out. Then once you have gotten a working virus program or gone on line to a free virus scan then reset the RPC recovery tab failure options to "restart the computer" once again. Good luck. {:~)

thank you for the advice....but what should i do if i
have a virus protection program? i have "AVG 7.0"....is
something wrong with it? is there a patch anywhere for
this "blaster virus"?

Greetings --

If you connected the PC to the Internet without having first
enabled a firewall, without having first installed an antivirus
application with current virus definition files, and before installing
the KB824146 Hotfix, you're very likely to get infected from any of
the thousands of PCs on the Internet that are constantly broadcasting
the Blaster and/or Welchia worms. It only takes a few seconds of
exposure.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut down. Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.

Seems like you have all the advice needed to remove the
blaster,My two cents worth is this:The blaster (lovesan)
virus has been out for some time if AVG 7.0 cannot
reconize it and you have updated it's definitions then
you need to find another anti-virus program.

Thanks for the mention, Bonnie. :o)

To stop the reboots: Go to Start/Run and type in: services.msc. Scroll down
to Remote Procedure Call (RPC)/Recovery/First Failure/Restart the Service.
Or go to Start/Run/CMD and type in: shutdown -a.

Close Windows Explorer, run the edit on line 257 which includes the prompt
for the patch once your system has been cleaned.

This script removes all variants of the W32.Blaster.Worm (original, B, C, D,
E and F) and will inform you whether or not the patch is already installed.
