I'm using asus k8vse deluxe with amd 64 3000+ that I built a year ago
and regular 32bit xp. Is anyone here using the latest windows 64? I'm
tempted to install it but last time I tried it, nearly a year ago, it
was far from ready for regular use though it seemed fast.

Has anyone been using it lately? any benefits? does it support SATA
drives now so I can just install straight from CD and don't need to use
those stupid floppies to load the SATA drivers?

Thanks

I've been reading the beta news groups and things are progressing well. I do
not have a 64bit system tho...
The release is scheduled for april, so if you can hold off until then you
should be able to get a CD for nearly nothing.
If you have a spare HDD or space for a new partition then go to it and get
the latest beta. Just remeber it is a beta, and that many drivers are not
yet released. It is destined to be an OEM release for driver reasons (thats
my view: an OEM will supply working drivers). However this will not stop you
from getting a copy.

If you want to try the beta, go to

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/evaluation/upgrade.mspx

and either download or order the cd. Note that the CD key you get is
specific to your install - it can be used once only (IE first user). Have a
good readof the news groups first - there are many repeated questions about
what drivers, where, cd keys etc.

Reports are that it is very stable - main issues are drivers...
