Looking for some opinions on this board, thinking to use it for some light
duty work.

thanks

I just did a new build with that board yesterday. It was for a friend's
budget box. Other components included

Antec Solution SLK1650B Case w/350W Power Supply
AMD Sempron 64 3100+ Palermo Processor
Corsair ValueSelect 1GB (2x512MB) DDR400
NEC DVD Burner ND-3550A
Samsung 1.44MB 3.5" Floppy Drive
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 80GB 7200RPM SATA150 Hard Drive
Logitech Internet Pro Desktop Black PS/2 Wired Keyboard/Optical Mouse
Generic 18" SATA Cable (Mobo doesn't include one in package)

Friend re-used monitor and speakers so didn't need to buy those. Bought all
components from Newegg. Total cost before shipping was around $420. System
came together without a hitch. Installed Windows XP Pro.

My general perception of the motherboard is good bang for the buck. The
included package is minimal, only a single IDE cable, 1 floppy cable, and
single driver disc. Had to buy a seperate SATA cable because it doesn't
include one. Also doesn't include any addional brackets such as USB2.
Board has up to 8 USB ports, 4 on the rear-panel IO and two headers. I was
able to connect one of those headers to the Antec front-USB ports, but the
other went unused. An additional bracket would have been nice. BIOS
options seemed plentiful, although I left most default. My friend is
primarily interested in Web/E-mail/Word and cares about stability above all
else, so I didn't dabble with any overclocking features. For $60, including
integrated Nvidia 6100 video, this board fit the bill perfectly.

Based on my build experience, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the board for
a budget box. Obviously, I don't have any long-term user experience to tell
you if the board has any quirks. The reviews at Newegg were generally
favorable and played into my choice of board in this price range.

Boff,
I plan on using a Sempron 64 2800+ or 3100+, Kingston Value 512 ram, NEC DVD
burnger
80 IDE WD hard drive, floppy. Can I just use standard BIOS settings or will
I have to change things?
I haven't built a computer in awhile and I'm very rusty in doing this.
Are all the drivers there I'll need? Easy to load all drivers?
I have a case that has from USB 1 connectors to it, will this work for this
board with USB 2?
I'll ask these questions for now, hope you don't mind some more to come? I
tried to send you a private email, is that possible?
thanks,
geo

The system components you mention are very similar to what I used, so I
don't see any problems there.

You might have to change the boot order such that you can boot from CD-ROM
before the hard disk for the Windows installation. Other than that, you can
probably get away with leaving everything default.

All the necessary drivers are included on a single CD provided with the
motherboard. However, I downloaded the latest drivers from the biostar
website (http://www.biostar-usa.com/mbdownloads.asp?model=GEFORCE 6100-M7)
as bundled CDs sometimes contain outdated drivers. You can also download
the chipset and video drivers directly from www.nvidia.com as they are the
manufacturer of the chips used on the board. I didn't have any difficulties
with the driver installations. Simply make sure that all devices are
defined (no question marks) in Device Manager when you are finished.
I have a case that has from USB 1 connectors to it, will this work for
this
board with USB 2?

I believe it will because the USB2 ports are USB1 backwards compatible, it
might just work in the slower USB1 mode of operation. Perhaps someone else
on this group might know for sure though?

I prefer to keep the correspondence in the group such that others may
benefit.

I was just putting my system together this evening. Replacing an old 1
GHz Athlon with a Tyan MB that went south.

Much to my dismay, I have discovered that my powersupply is no longer
useful as it has the 10 pin MB connector.

Grr!

Should have posted before having the beer. That would be a std 20 pin
connector.
