Hi;
I hope someone can help me with this.
My CD-burner vanished.
Does anyone know what type of conflict could have made the drive
vanish?

I have a LG CD-drive and a LG DVD-drive and I did have a CD burner
drive...but..alas..no more. Although I do see it physically, so it
must be there.. right!
What happened to it?

I am running Win98SE on Pent4.
Question is..where do I get drivers for it? Does windows have the
drivers? I think the drive may be generic, although it came with LG
Adaptec recording software but I don't think drivers are on that CD.
Should I- disconnect it - reboot - let windows find the drive -
reinstall drivers.
Thanks for any advice..
Lyn

was it detected in the bios post screen? secondary master/slave and you set the jumpers accordingly?

When? Was it recognized fine, then just disappeared? Have you checked the
cables?

Did you install any new software or hardware before it vanished? BIOS
changes?

How are your drives connected to your MB? What are their jumper settings?

Going to need more info first.

Yes, windows will have drives for ATAPI devices.

Drivers for CD or DVD drives are never, as far as I know, on the CD. Your
OS should recognize the drive. This is why, if you don't need software and
the warrantees are the same, you should just buy OEM drives.
Should I- disconnect it - reboot - let windows find the drive -
reinstall drivers.

It could help, but don't change too much if it was once working and then
just suddenly stopped. Does the BIOS recognize the drive?

Hi again;
I have had this CD-burned on this comp. running fine for well over a
year, so it should have ok jumpers, and BIOS is not detecting. I
should also ad that I have not recently added new Software or
Hardware.

The CD & DVD drive are listed in Device manager.
The only splats (red circle with red line through it) I have are in on
the IRQ in the ECP resourses, and on the task bar over the 'Adaptec
Direct CD Wizard -No supported CD-R/CD-RW Drive' icon.

I thought I should also add that I just noticed in Device Manager: a
yellow exclamation mark beside ECP Printer Port.
When I go to>properties>resourses:
there is a Interrupt Request 07 conflict>
IRQ 07 is used by the following:

ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
Standard Universal PCI to USB Host Controller

However when I go to manually reset, I only get a choice of IRQ 5 or
7. Both of which have the same conflicts. All of my other IRQs are
used, so can I share with something else? Does this have to do with
the CD-Burner drive problem?

After removing the CD-Rom & rebooting to reinstall drivers, the comp.
will only install the CD-Rom drive.
Still no CD-Burner.

Thnx........Lyn
