Anyone know what "Tunnel Adapters" are in ipconfig?

Hello.

New Vista machine. I do "ipconfig/all. I see the following:

1. Windows IP configuration section. That's fine.

2. Wireless LAN adapter Connection Information section. That's fine.
It shows the way I am connected, and it all makes sense.

3. Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection. That media shows as
disconnected (which it is) so that is fine.

Now we get into the weird stuff.

4. Tunnel Adapter Local Area Connection* 6
Media State: Disconnected.
Connection-Specific DNS suffix: <empty>
Description: Isatap.{Long Hex Number inside curly brackets}
Physical Address: 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-E0
DHCP Enabled: No
Autoconfiguration Enabled: Yes

5. Tunnel Adapter Local Area Connection* 7
Connection-Specific DNS Suffix: <my ISP>
Description: isatap.<my ISP>

Can someone explain to me what 4, 5, and 6 are? Many thanks.

untrusted network (the Internet). Those look like
