I am going to get a demo unit from them to test out for an upcoming
project. Will probably be putting in a lab of about 20 Thin Clients.
Vic Hi Tech has some really cheap units, and I was wondering if anyone
has good/bad/etc. experiences with them.

I already have a good review from a colleague but I am looking for
more opinions before I commit.

TIA

I have 10 of them that were purchased by a consultant before I started my
current job, and they work fine, however there aren't a lot of places to buy
them, and I haven't found anyplace that sells them at the list price of $279.

I prefer Wyse 3235LE for basic functionality, and 3125SE if you need legacy
ports. Chip PC makes some with very nice features, like Smart Card support
and small footprint.

Recap, Vic HiTech terminals work fine, but I haven't used the remote
utilities for flashing ROMs. I like their speed to turn off (instant), but
they lack security features to lock down a terminal, if needed.

If you're paying more than $325 for them I'd buy a Wyse unit, but if you can
the VHT units cheap they're very reliable. I even had a girl spill a glass
of water on a unit, which died, but came back to life after I dried it out
for a few days.

I prefer Wyse because I can always get new ROM updates & add-ons from their
website.

Let me know who your reseller is if you're getting a good deal.

Thanks for the input.

Well, firstly, I am the reseller. I will be putting in about 20
clients on a site in the near future.

I can buy the Vic most basic unit for under $250 directly from them. A
couple of bucks more for the next model up. I am not sure yet what
features i need, but basically just a dumb client with USB, Audio and
Video. Just the basics. Running some educational software, Word
Processing and web browsing.

Thanks again for the input.

By the way if I'm going in the $300+ range I could just get
HP/Compaqs. I buy from distributors.

We use VTC-2220 Windows Based Terminals with CE.Net, and they seem to
function adequately. They have PS2, USB & Audio Ports. I've noticed that
Optical Mice only function properly when plugged into a PS2 Port (with the
little adapter that comes with the mouse). When they're plugged into a USB
port the mouse jumps around a lot.

A terminal is a terminal, is a terminal, unless you must lock them down, or
unless you have to manage a bunch of them. For 20 of them, it shouldn't be a
problem.

I'm honestly not sure what their firmware upgrade policy is, so this is
something you should ask.
