Does anyone out there still have a copy of PaperMaster 98 ver 4.03?
Someone says it runs on Windows XP, is this true?
My dad has lots of documents on the old PaperMaster which does not run
on XP.
He doesn't want to spend 200 Euro on the new PaperMaster Pro.

Please?

Papermaster 98 provided a read-only, redistributable version of
Papermaster which could be included on "published" media (ie a CD).
The read-only version runs fine under XP....see if you can find a
directory named CabVw98 on any of your dad's old media. In that
directory will be a file pfc.exe. run that file and you will be able to
read old cabinets.

One thing that you could do is to download the current version of
PaperMaster. The get your dad to put a lot of time into turning his
archives into PDF files. Sadly, PaperMaster does not make this as easy
as it might, but that is their style.

The advantage of this approach is that he then has something that is
not tied to the crummy file system that PaperMaster uses.

The new version of PaperMaster will convert his old stuff into files
that it can read. And when the trial version runs out, you can also
maintain access to these files with the PaperMaster Viewer that is the
equivalent of the software mentioned by the other person who responded
to your query.

The last post triggered the simplist idea.... Papermaster Pro 7.0 has a
Cabinet_Converter option under Tools menu to convert your old cabinet
to the new version. This would be an alternative to converting each
document into a pdf file.
However, if a document was important...I'd convert it to a pdf and save
it outside the PaperMaster file structure.

Once converted, publish (to a CD/DVD) the new cabinet (as the second
post suggested) with the current cabinet viewer software. Then you
would be able to view the documents after the trial vversion license
ran out.

More good advice. I think we have provided enough information to get
the person out of their hole.

Wish I had thought of the "Publish to" trick before my trial ran out.

But I have found that you can print to PDF from the viewer software.
Fortunately, I now use PaperPort for this sort of thing, thanks to the
failure to get an XP version of Papermaster out in good time.
