Anyone got the Canon LIDE 60 to work with XP?

I've been using an Epson scanner for a while and recently tried a Canon Lide
60. I haven't been able to get this to work due to a driver problem. With
the Canon software (ArcSoft PhotoStudio), it just complains about not being
able to open the Twain source. With Photoshop, it complains about a missing
DLL: rmslantc.dll

This DLL is actually present in C:\WINDOWS\twain_32\CNQL60 but it seems the
system can't find it. I copied this to the \windows directory and it then
complained about the next DLL (iop.dll I think). So I copied the entire
C:\WINDOWS\twain_32\CNQL60 directory to \windows and Photoshop now just
gives a "Could not open the Twain Source" error.

I've tried a few other obvious things including an updated driver (Scangear
11.110 from 1 Dec 2005) and repeated uninstall/system restore and
re-install. I was able to get the scanner to work with VueScan so it's not a
hardware problem (but no good because I want to use it with photoshop and I
don't see why I should have to buy extra software).

Looking through the newsgroups it seems this is a common problem with LIDE
scanners so can anyone recommend a replacement?

Thanks,

Jay.

I had my LIDE 500F working under 2000 Pro, then I upgraded to XP.

Haven't been able go get it recognized by VueScan or other programs yet, but I
am able to operate it using the Canon utility that came with it.

Jay,

I don't know why, but it works here both through the Canon scan
utility and from other programs through TWAIN.

Canon software is about as bad as HP software though, so the
CanoScan LiDE 60 is only a second rate choice. A pity, because
the scanner itself seems to be a fine device. But so was most HP
hardware.
