The only avantage of this chip for desktop PC's at the moment is that it'll push down the price of the dual core chips.

Good news for over worked servers though ;)

As Techy said ... it's a server chip and probably very expensive.

Be a waste trying to use it in a desktop PC ... you'll need server software to run it. Linux anyone?

;)

that is one good thing about linux is that you can throw multiple CPU's and huge amouns of RAM and it doesn't cost the earth the buy to O/S.

It already has

I recieved an email the other day from Microdirect telling me about AMD price drops. I looked at their site and noticed a 4200x2 was..wait for it

£140.99 inclusive http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=9890&GroupID=1530

This is £100 cheaper than what I paid for mine about 9months ago

Fantastic

Yep, i just been looking on Overclockers UK, Even the newer AM2 stuff is cheaper! AM2 4600X2 @ 2.4Ghz for £176 = Bargain!

I saw they are also doing the S939 4000+ for just over 100 quid! If you dont mind it being 939.....Or the classic 3700 for less than a ton!

When we get some cooler weather i'll be looking to upgrade, oh yes... :D

Great stuff :D I'm getting a lump sum from the uni to build a PC used for the next 3 years, I can't wait to build one using some of these bargain CPUs :D

im sure u folks have seen the quad SLI boards by now right? Well what if u put in 4 7950 GTX cards in there....

I'm more interested in the 4800's to b honest. If they come down that will be cool. Not bothered if they 939.

Its a massive jolt to what I have in this machine

Same here, in the autumn i gonna do some upgrading and its deffo gonna be an AM2 X2.

i think £205 at OCUK for a 4800 X2 is a real bargain

Have you seen the new intel processors? If I was buying now I would wait for the new intel core duo 2 or whatever the crap name is. They flatten everything including fx-62s, and draw less power, and the cheapest one which can easily be overclocked is £115.

Then again, you can't argue with AMD's pricing. christ. £65 for a 3700 is what you would have paid for for a sempron a month ago...!
