I just started getting error messages from TY 8.7 that I can not
record broadcast TV anymore. I only know that some new law has come
out. Anyone else know anyting about this?

What is "TY 8.7"? And what is the exact message?

There is no "new law" (in the US anyway) that affects anything that any
input on an ATI board can capture. The only "new law" that has come
about recently requires the capability to put a protection flag on HD
digital broadcast-no broadcasters are actually doing this and in any
case ATI does not make a board which can capture HD digital broadcast.

Are you saying the AIW can't record Digital Cable broadcasts? I
thought if you bypass the ATI analog tuner and use your cable box as
the tuner in conjunction with a s-video hookup you could? Or maybe i'm
misinturpreting your response?

But its what the broadcasters want.. eventually! Its GONNA SUCK!!

Imagine... you're out of town or at work, and you CANT RECORED your TV
show to watch later because ABC tags it as a NO RECORD!

I didn't say anything about cable. The "new law" applies to high
definition over the air transmissions, not to digital cable. While it
is possible to down-convert a high definition signal to composite or
S-video, you end up with standard definition so there's no real point to
it. In any case, such a signal will be sufficiently degraded that the
content providers are unlikely to worry any more about it than they do
about any other analog TV transmission.
