Symantec has just made it to my "new best friends" list. I'm actually quite
used to problems with Symantec products, but they've really frosted my
onions on this one.
I'm having problems getting Symantec's Norton AntiVirus 2004 going on a new
WinXP that the OEM had preloaded with SP1. It craps out when trying to
initialize for the first time with error "3009,0", which Symantec says is
due to M$'s KB828741. The workaround is supposed to be uninstall NAV,
uninstall KB828741, reinstall NAV and reinstall KB828741. The fun part is
that the OEM's system load does not include an uninstall for KB828741.
(Control Panel => Add/Remove Programs doesn't give that option and searching
the system for an uninstall directory for KB828741 comes up empty.)
Aside from returning the product and buying some other manufacturer's AV
product, does anybody here have a solution to this problem?
TIA
