Do a Google search for the terms "Uninstall+Norton" (without the quotes).
Read the results.

Sometimes yes. Then you will have to use the NAV uninstaller utility located on the
Symantec web site.

Aren't the assorted Symantec uninstall programs smart enough to do
that first?

Howdy,

It may be the tool that David suggested earlier in the
thread, but I have a Norton Cleanup tool that was sent to me
by the folks at Kaspersky.

All the best,

Bob,

Symantec uninstall programs? LOL. It's been 6 months since I have had
NAV on my system, and I am still fighting those ... well, you know ...
people. It took me 4 months to figure out how to get rid of all of the
16-bit choice.com files that were scattered throughout my HD in various
Symantec sub-directories. I finally re-read Eric Howes' notes on Enough
is Enough!:

Everytime I install or re-install a significant program/application, I
re-run HijackThis and save the log file as a point of reference. This
item keeps showing up:

O23 - Service: Symantec Network Drivers Service (SNDSrvc) - Unknown
owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe (file
missing)

I tell HijackThis to get rid of it, and it always, like a bad penny,
comes back. The pointer must be hidden somewhere, because I have
manually cleaned the Registry of all Symantec/Norton entries. The terms
uninstall and Symantec/Norton don't belong in the same sentence. I
wonder if re-formatting the HD would work. LOL.

Ron, Symantec has a pretty thorough 'manual' removal procedure on their website.
Perhaps you could even use the Norton removal tool from Kaspersky that Kenneth
mentioned a few post before this.

Hello again,

I just checked to see if I still have it. I do.

It is symNRT.EXE and is 661K so could be emailed. (And I
repeat: It may be the same tool that is on the Norton site.

It removed everything relating to Norton.

Now, if only I had a tool to remove my memories of dealing
with Symantec...<g>

All the best,

Eric and Kenneth,

Thanks guys. The SymNRT removal tool is available here:

Watch the word wrap, or Google for SymNRT.exe. It is for use only for
the corrupted uninstallation of NAV 2004 or 2005. I believe that I had
NAV 2003(OEM), and for NAV 2003 or earlier you have to use Rnav2003.exe,
also available at the above link. At any rate, I used the manual removal
procedures to remove all of the Symantec/Norton
files/directories/Registry keys.

I would be interested if anyone else sees the same Hijack This! results
that I see after removing the file "C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe".

Just an FYI follow-up to this thread. I finally got rid of the SOB. In
addition to the manual removal of NAV, and the use of the tools
SymNRT.exe and Rnav2003.exe, there is another Symantec page dealing with
the manual removal of Symantec Services, particularly the Symantec
Network Drivers Service. And if you can read this, perhaps I haven't
screwed up my Registry too much. LOL.

Ron :-)
